What a great idea for Top Ten Tuesday right?! I don’t think audiobooks are appreciated enough in the Bookish world, I absolutely love them. Audiobooks are the reason I manage to keep up with my reading list every semester at University – because I commute to the uni I do most of my listening in the car – they really are a life-saver! I listen to them whilst I’m doing the housework, the food shopping and pretty much anything I can do with headphones in! I also find it much easier to read the Classics by listening to them. As you can see I’m a pretty big fan.
p.s This is actually my top six audio books, but Top Six Tuesday just doesn’t have the same ring to it!
Six: North and South – Elizabeth Gaskell
I love this book! See more here. I listened to the audiobook after having read the book and watched the BBC adaptation (which is amazing, btw) and it made me fall in love with it even more!
Five: Middlemarch – George Eliot
At 900 pages long, Middlemarch is a beast of a book! But, it is beautifully written and relays Victorian daily life perfectly, even more so in audio format.
Four: Ubik – Philip K. Dick
One of the great science-fiction novels and one that I would get way too lost in just reading it! I listened and read along at the same time and, boy did it help me understand what the hell was going on! Listening really helped me to appreciate this book.
Three: The Tenant of Wildfell Hall – Anne Bronte (narrated by Frederick Davidson)
A lovely story of what a Victorian woman would do to protect her child and narrated beautifully by Davidson.
Two: Northanger Abbey – Jane Austen (narrated by Harriet Stevens)
You’re probably catching on… but, most books in this list are classics! Audiobooks have really made me appreciate how good classics are. Northanger Abbey is by far one of my favourite classics. Catherine Moreland is a wonderful character and Austen an incredible writer!
One: Jane Eyre – Charlotte Bronte (narrated by Thandie Newton)
I read Jane Eyre whilst doing my A Levels and really didn’t enjoy it, but then I decided to give it another go and listened to the audible version. It really opened my eyes to what a wonderful book it is and Thandie Newton does a fantastic job at narrating it.

Reading my Life Away 
I’m impressed that you listen to classics on audiobook! I have always had a hard time following along with audiobooks, I am not an auditory invididual at all.

I’ve never listened to an audiobook! But I’m sure listening to the classics would be a fairly good choice if I were to start 🙂

It is such a good way to read them! If it weren’t for audiobooks I wouldn’t have read half of the classics I have! 🙂
